“Sunny (More Sweetness With Honey)” – words and music by Timothy Trieste (SOCAN Timothy Feher)
“It’s all riding on sunny / I’ve turned it over, I must confess / You get more sweetness with honey / In all the world there’s only peace to see us through.”
“Sunny” the first song on the new album, is the central song in The Life of Pearls stage show which features Timothy Trieste’s narrations from his inspired book of short stories.”Sunny” spotlights the gorgeous vocals of Shann Bailey backed by the lyrical jazz piano of Peter Brown and the acoustic groove of Trieste’s guitars, the bass of Charles Richer, and the drums of Jamie Holmes which permeate the album.

“Rock Fight” – words and music by Timothy Trieste (SOCAN Timothy Feher)
“Sticks and stones / Memories of a stone-cold road / Makes rocks of our bones.” A cosmic vision of the birth of the universe to the sound of a great backing band.

“Walking Away” – words and music by Timothy Trieste (SOCAN Timothy Feher)
“We’re born alone. This body is not meant to last. And your mourn alone. Only one step ahead of your past.”
A short music film by Timothy Trieste begging forgiveness for our destinations which too often wish they were always somewhere else. The short film illustrates some of the imagery used in The Life of Pearls stage show, punctuated by Trieste’s excerpts from his short story collection introducing each of his songs in the show. Walking Away is hauntingly interpreted by vocalist Shann Bailey. The piano work of Peter Brown is sublime, as are the bass lines of Charles Richer.

“Keep It Together” – words and music by Timothy Trieste and Shann Bailey (SOCAN Timothy Feher)
“”Can we come together? / The world is a mystery / The price of your love is you life  / Reaching ever across the space between you and me.”
“Keep It Together, from the new album, is one of the central retro songs in The Life of Pearls stage show “The Summer of Love”. The show is based on narrations from Timothy Trieste’s  book of short stories about that mythical summer in 1967. The stage show and the songs take us on a journey through memory, the coming of age in a changing world, and the magic of all those summers past.

“The Place That Was Before” – words and music by Timothy Trieste (SOCAN 2019 Timothy Feher)
“The way you always jest / Like Shakespeare at his best / Everything a play within a play / And there’s wine stains on the stage / We acted out our rage / As the footlights dim the actors lose their way…” A moving song about memory, lost love and a haunting final scene on the stage so many years ago. Trieste composed the song from his short story and stage play, now featured in Episode 2 of Trieste’s new short story film series commissioned by The Great Canadian Theatre Company showing now at GCTC. The song “The Place That Was Before” features a  vocal duet with songwriter Trieste and lead vocalist Shann Bailey, beautifully accompanied on piano and keyboards by Nelson Martins.

“Admission” – words and music by Timothy Trieste and Shann Bailey (SOCAN 2019 Timothy Feher)
“…Piano chords above the corner store, they’re writing songs like this.” Originally conceived by Bailey and Trieste as a tribute to the jazz standard ballads of the 1940’s and 50’s, The Life of Pearls duo first jammed out the idea for “Admission” one summer evening, on an old painted piano (pictured above) in a west Ottawa park in Stittsville. By the time the moon came up through the trees, Bailey and Trieste had most of the song written and returned to their west Ottawa “Sound of the Muse -DreamForest Studios” to record the demo tracks.

“Rock Fight” – words and music by Timothy Trieste (SOCAN 2019 Timothy Feher)
“…Sticks and stones, memories of a stone cold road, make rocks of our bones.” A song about human memory and the origin of the universe after the big bang,  “Rock Fight” came to Trieste in a dream and is the central song and story line in another of Trieste’s short stories narrated between the songs during The Life of Pearls concerts. The recording features the outstanding solo piano of Peter Brown, and the tight rhythm section of Jamie Holmes on drums, Charles Richer on bass, and Timothy Trieste on guitars.

The Life of Pearls”In every grain of sand / is the stardust of the universe.
In the course of oceans reaching land / is the pearl that grows inside of everything.
On the sandy spit / somewhere in the south seas of your mind,
Are the shells you have walked over…time after time.from the book of short stories and poetry “Into The Beautiful Blue”

“A Flower in the Fray” commemorates Remembrance DayComposed by Timothy Trieste with Shann Bailey, A Flower in the Fray honours the Canadian role in the liberation of Europe from fascism 75 years ago. The song uses the metaphor of the tulip – Holland’s national flower as a struggling flower in the fray of war. Canadian troops liberated Holland from Nazi occupation in 1944. The Dutch people had been starved by their Nazi captors and resorted to digging up tulip bulbs for nourishment. The song and video, produced by Timothy Trieste and featuring the lush vocals of Shann Bailey, calls on us to remember, and to defend efforts for peace and friendship around the world.

The Life of Pearls Summer Concert Tour and Stage Show: “The Summer of Love 1967-2017”From the songs and stories of Timothy Trieste, “The Summer of Love” is Timothy’s memoir of that mythical summer 50 years ago. The show tells the story of a flower child named Sunny, told against the backdrop of the flower power, music and the world changing events of 1967. The Summer of Love searches for a definition for “love,” and takes us to the corner of Haight and Ashbury in San Francisco, Toronto’s hippie enclave in Yorkville, and to Montreal’s Expo 67. Amidst the hippie revolution in North America , the release of Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, and the recording of Bob Dylan’s “Basement Tapes” with 4 Canadian musicians in a country house in upstate New York, “The Summer of Love” chronicles a social and cultural zeitgeist of the 20th century. Oh Canada…Oh Flower Power, the show also remembers the 1967 Centennial summer in Canada, when our country found its own meaning for peace and love and seemed to come of age on the world stage. “The Summer of Love” features the original jazz inspired pop and singer/songwriter compositions from The Life of Pearls debut album, along with some classic cover songs from 1967.
